How To Write The Perfect Essay

How To Write The Perfect Essay The important issue is to write the best essay you can, not the length of words. If you’re focus in only on the words and not what you’ve written, your writing is never going to be good. Focus on what’s important, not on things like this. The truth is there is no definitive answer to this question. Things like paragraph size and headers need to be taken into account as well. My teacher told me that I needed to write an essay that had 2500 words. I got marks off for not writing an essay with exactly 2500 words. That’s completely ridiculous but my teacher refuse to reinstate the point she took off because she said 2500 words and not 2498 words. I could’ve just said that my was 2500 words and she would’ve never known the difference. I don’t understand why I’m being punished for being honest. There are instances when you’re given an assignment, not by word count, but assigned by the number of pages. “White space” is a wonderful illusion that tells your reader what you have to say is pretty easy to take in. I’ve seen some news articles in which each paragraph is only one sentence long. I feel that’s taking it to extremes, and it can have the opposite effect of making your writing look disjointed. I like to see at least three or four lines to a paragraph, and as an indication, my longest paragraph so far is just 74 words long. Check out episode three of our podcast, No More Beans, for even more great tips on writing essays against a deadline. It's important to limit the time you spend on this, as it is easy to get distracted when Google presents you with copious amounts of irrelevant information. But you'll find your essay easier to write if you're armed with lots of relevant info, so don't scrimp on it either. For example, “Write a paper four pages long.” If you get an assignment to write four pages, one of the first questions that will likely come to mind is, “How many words are in four pages? ” If you need to figure out words per page, you can use a words per page calculator. This is a great guide, but people should be aware that these are just estimates. For example, I am currently writing a paper and have 5,000 words, but only 17 pages .

For J, this might mean beginning with a time before he and his sister were closeâ€"say, when all the siblings were in the house and there wasn’t much time for the two to connect. Then Josh would tell us about what changed as soon as the brother left, and in there he might find an opening anecdote. Next, you need to formulate a thesis statement based on the proposed topic. The thesis is the basic idea that you wish to prove in the essay. Properly formulate the thesis, and you will push yourself to write a beautiful and structured piece. If you’re really struggling to outline and would rather just follow the pen to a first draft, that’s fine, but do yourself a favor and make outlining your second draft step. At some point, everyone needs an outline, but it’s your call when to do it. To avoid this, always use proofreading software, such as Grammarly, to weed out the major errors. Follow up with a close reading of your entire paper.

Writing An Essay

Writing An Essay If they’ve changed, tell the story of the moment when they changedâ€"say, in a classroom, in a conversation with a friend, etc. What do people in your community or school know you for? It is good to be afraid of clichéâ€"but one of the truisms about clichés is that they become trite because they reiterate feelings we’ve all had. That also means that buried beneath many clichés is some authentic, particular, and personal relationship you have to your topic. In order to have this kind of time freedom, you’ll have to start early. As a Boston-born girl, my loyalty to the Patriots seems naturalâ€"even if it’s not so common for a teenage Indian-American-Californian girl to be as much of a sports junkie as I am. But I’ve seen that loyalty tested plenty of times. I’m completely invested in the Pats; I’ve been known to be giddy when they win, and tearful when they lose. However, finding a true home to watch Patriots games in California isn’t easy. By the end of the season, the staff knew what we wanted to eat, and where we wanted to sit, so the sports bar felt like a second home. By the way, this prompt helped Ramya settle on the Patriotsâ€"Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you? Ramya’s going to write about the sports bar where she watches her team play every Sunday during football season. Tell the story of the first time you did this thing. Tell the story of the most meaningful time you did this thingâ€"it might be, say, when you won a game, but it also might be when you lost a game, or when you quit the team. Tell the story of a time you saw somethingâ€"visuallyâ€"that provoked that anger or frustration. Tell the story of the first time you learned about these valuesâ€"say, a morning at Sunday School or a conversation with a grandparent. Those are just a few more narrative possibilities for structuring your essay. At 650 words, each of these will be best understood as a five-paragraph essay, so a basic structure stays the same, but the way things begin and end will not. So instead Anita decides to write about a wilderness solo she took in North Carolina on a school trip, and about how it influenced her relationship with poetry. The obvious thingâ€"and the thing most teachers and advisors told Anita to doâ€"is write about mock trial. It would be a good opportunity to give the admissions committee some insight into her psychology behind the success. She took a couple of stabs at it during free-writing, though, and it didn’t flow. Ramya could try to write something about medicine. Or she could write about soccer, dance, or speech. But none of those things seem to tell the admissions committee what they wouldn’t already know from simply reading her list of extracurriculars. Did you grow up considering another place that is not where you currently live home? Tell the story of the first time you went there or the first time you remember going there. Was there a particular timeâ€"a summer, or a yearâ€"when that place became important? And if you spend your summer warming up and training for the main event, you can start rereading your body of freewriting by the end of July. What do your friends come to you seeking help with? Tell the story of a time when you think you did a great job of helping another person. Now, to make sure you stay humble, tell the story of when that person helped you. They say a piece of short fiction is about a moment after which nothing will be the same again.

The Pearl Harbor Attack - Free Essay Example

In my opinion, I believe the attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise. To support my theory, on December 7,1941, two planes came crashing, and the planes were sent at different times on that day. One plane was sent at 8:00 PM while the other was sent at 9:00 PM. By 1:00 PM, the carriers, that launched the planes from 274 miles off the coast of Oahu, were heading back to Japan. Leaving behind, 2,403 casualties, 188 destroyed planes, and a diminished Pacific Fleet that included either eight damaged or destroyed battleships. In one stroke, the Japanese action silenced the debate that had divided Americans ever since the German defeat of France which left England alone in the fight against the Nazi terror. That horrible day has been a major event that has happened in our world and it has affected the people as well. People to this day question Was the Pearl Harbor a Surprise Attack or Not? I do think so, but that is just my opinion. At the end of the Pearl Harbor attack, it left 2,335 dead and 68 civilians and 1,104 wounded. This was a devastating time for them to process because it was a surprise attack. News of the sneak attack is broadcast to the American public via radio bulletins, with many popular Sunday afternoon entertainment programs b eing interrupted. The news sends a shockwave across the nation and results in a tremendous influx of young volunteers into the U.S. armed forces. The attack also unites the nation behind the President and effectively ends isolationist sentiment in the country. The Japanese strike force turns for home. In the 44 months of war that will follow, the U.S. Navy will sink every one of the Japanese aircraft carriers, battleships and cruisers in this strike force. And when Japan signs the surrender document on Sept. 2, 1945, among the U.S. warships in Tokyo Bay will be a victim of the attack, the USS West Virginia. (National Geographic, Military Times) Couple days later, Japans allies Germany, and Italy had declared war on the United States. Which brought United states to World War 1. Apparently, the surprise was not really a surprise because they knew about the attack. The reason I believe it is a surprise because even if you knew about why didnt you stop their attack, but it is debatable because most countries are more dominant than others which sounds like this situation. President Roosevelt apparently said something about no one is getting into their country and attacking them, and karma hits them hard core! See it was a not a surprise attack apparently! President Franklin D.Roosevelt was warned three days before the attack that the Japanese empire was eyeing up Hawaii with a view to open conflict. (Goddard). So bacascilly, President Roosevelt ignored the fact that the United States was going to get attack. After that President Roosevelt declared war on japan. The European and Southeast Asian became a conflict with the Axis powers, so it was basically Japan, Germany and Italy, united against America, Britain, France, and their Allies. Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on December 8, most Pacific Coast radio stations went live to Washington to cover Franklin Roosevelts speech to a joint session of Congress. Roosevelt announced that the attack on Pearl Harbor was a day that would live in infamy, and he asked Congress for a declaration of war. The Role of Marlow as Narrator in Joseph Conrads Heart...

The Role of Marlow as Narrator in Heart of Darkness Whether Marlow is, or is not, Conrad has been discussed extensively. Clearly, Marlow is both, at the same time that he is neither. Heart of Darkness is not, then, Marlows story exclusively. And if we examine it for a moment as the creation of the nameless member of Marlows audience, it takes on a different coloration. The narrators inclusion of Marlows story within his point of view appears as a deliberate attempt on his part to frame the concrete world and mans involvement with this world in a vision which negates the reality of both. Heart of Darkness creates for us the visible surface of life, but does so in such a way that we never forget that this surface is†¦show more content†¦Like Kurtz and Marlow, the anonymous narrator makes his voyage into the darkness, a voyage defined by the Nellies swing during the course of the narrative from its position facing the luminous estuary to its final heading into the heart of an immense darkness. Yet it is clear from the narrators calm acceptance of this final vision, an acceptance which contrasts so strongly with Marlows lie to the Intended, that he does not feel threatened. Because he has accepted the darkness to the point where even the final commitment to a positive self vanishes, he is not susceptible to the sense of vulnerability which overwhelms Marlow. He can say, in the words Conrad used to Cunninghame-Graham, je ne regrete rien,- je nespà ¨re rien, car je maperà §ois que ni le regret ni lespà ©rance signifient rien à   ma personalità ©. For this narrator, then, the act of writing Heart of Darkness is an act of self-denial, a self-denial which is apparent in the very tone of the narrators voice. In contrast to Kurtz and Marlow, his voice has a curiously passive quality, so that, although he occasionally uses the first person, his statements do not really appear as acts of assertion by an I. Significantly, he presents himself as a listener, not as an actor or speaker, andShow MoreRelated moralhod Relative Morality in Joseph Conrads Heart of Darkness1511 Words   |  7 PagesRelative Morality in Heart of Darkness      Ã‚  Ã‚   It has been well documented by critics that modernist literature departs from the blind acceptance of beliefs, religious beliefs in particular, evident in literature of prior periods (Abrams 1).   As Jump notes [...] the modern western world is less sure of its values than most previous cultures with which we are familiar; relativism and subjectivity are facts of everyday experience (15).   Joseph Conrads Heart of Darkness is no exception.   TheRead MoreJoseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness957 Words   |  4 Pages1977 focuses on the racist views woven into Joseph Conrad’s 1899 novella, Heart of Darkness. Three Perspectives on a Current Issue from the Three Paradigms Being Research Paper

Three Perspectives on a Current Issue from the Three Paradigms Being Covered in Class - Research Paper Example Rent paid by entrepreneurs basically constitutes the land resource, which is used to produce other economic goods and services. Human resource is an active factor of production, which constitutes human labor as a service provision for the production of goods and services that is paid through wages and salaries. Man-made goods that are used for further production of goods and services are referred to as capital goods and include buildings and machinery that are paid as interests. Land, labor, and capital are exploited for production of goods and services in the economy to constitute the national income. Factors of production that can be shifted are capital and labor while land cannot be shifted, since it is a limited factor of production. Labor organizes capital for production although entrepreneurs must maintain an effective ratio of capital goods and labor with a production firm. The decision-making process needs to put into consideration that excess labor per unit of capital and vi ce versa may lead to losses due to inefficiency. Therefore, labor and Capital must be applied in effective ratios for realization of the highest possible economic value (Sagar 50). Organization of Factors of Production Enterprises should be organized by combining labor, land, and capital effectively through a business plan so as to start and run the business. Organization of factors of production does not only constitute planning and running a business, but also absorbing loss for continued production. Enterprise organization as Production process is complex and essential, since there exists small situations in and outside a country that influence organization, thus the necessity of proper planning and operation of an enterprises. Land, as a factor of production, is controlled by land owners, while capital goods are controlled by capitalist and labor as a human resource with respect to occupation skills and salaries. These factors of production are scattered within the economy and t hus the need for organization of these factors of production. Social Institutions The economic interactions of technology, capital goods and social institutions contribute significantly to economic growth through effective production. Social, political, economic and legal institutions in a country affect the economic growth both positively and negatively. Normally, countries seek to redesign their social, political and legal institutions to alter their impact for the improvement of the economy. Institutions that are known to be beneficial in contribution to economic growth should lead to importation of the institutional structures of another country that has benefited from economic growth. Examples of countries that have imported institutional countries include Dubai, which imported London’s commercial law that helps the government in city regulations. However, in many countries, the complete overhaul of institutional structure may not be possible due to political and social disagreements. Political, legal and social institutions go beyond the aspects of basic institutional entities such as the judiciary and parliament.

In this story, Elizabeth expresses her concern for poverty and suffering. This story involved a lot of conflicts throughout and is told from the point of view of one of the brothers. He tells this story about the tragedy which caused the death of his brother. From the beginning we find out that the narrators mother had not lived a very pleasant life, she was twice married and wasnt happy with her first husband,  She never spoke of her first husband, and it is only from other people that I have learnt what little I know about him.  The first two events in the story are the death of her first husband and then the death of her little baby. The baby girls death had such a great impact of sorrow and pain that she couldnt even cry or drop a tear but felt as if her heart had been torn apart. The narrators mother decides to marry William Preston, clearly not for love, but for a matter of survival, as William Prestons wife, she would never need to do anything.  During the Victorian period, women were viewed as weak without men because they had no status and without a man to support the household or give them that status.  The Victorian Period wasnt a perfect time to live in. Life wasnt easy compared to how it is nowadays, especially for a single parent being a woman.  William Preston became very jealous after he realised his wife loves her son more than him, he took a positive dislike to Gregory. His wife died soon after giving birth to her second son(the narrator). Just before she died, she tells Gregory and her new son to look out for each other.  As the two step-brothers grew up, we can see that they were two very different people. We see that the narrator was the darling, the tenderly beloved, and the young master. In contrast, Gregory was described as lumpish and loutish, awkward and ungainly. The narrator is given everything he wants including good education whereas Gregory is forced to work as a Sheppard. The narrator admits that he also treated Gregory badly, following his fathers example, he feels guilty, I am ashamed my heart is sore my poor orphan stepbrother. One day, the narrator goes on an errand and gets lost in a snow storm. Gregory finds him and they are both lost and had to spend the whole night in the freezing cold. Gregory gave the narrator his coat and holds him to keep him warm. By the time they are discovered, Gregory had died from saving his brother. This makes William Preston feel awfully guilty. When he eventually dies he desired that he might lie at the foot of the grave, in which, by his desire, poor Gregory had been laid with our mother. In comparison, the conflicts in these three stories are caused by similar events which led to conflict. It was the money problems which were the main root to these conflicts, because of money, it was essential for women in those days to marry to a man who can provide for her.  In To Please his Wife, conflicts are shown to be most involved in Joanna and Shadrachs marriage. The marriages have not worked because Joanna simply did not marry Shadrach for love but just over jealousy. This led to her continuous hatred of her old best friend, Emily as after she married Shadrach, Emilys wealth was increasing compared to her. The marriage in The Half-Brothers was a financial plan, it was essential that Helen remarries to a man who could provide for herself and her son, therefore the family was not bonded by love and so is weak. This shows that women of that time did not have much freedom as social and economic pressures made it hard for them to choose a single life. Similar to the couple in To Please his Wife, the pair in this story do not marry for love either. Unlike the other two stories, in The Parvenue, the narrator in this story actually does marry for love, my heart throbbed with gladness, as I thought that he surely loved me. Although she and her husband were deeply in love, the marriage did not last very long before it led to conflict within the family. The marriage did not go well because of the difference between their social status. The narrator was poor and was raised up in a working class family whereas Lord Reginald is a rich wealthy man.  During the Victorian period, women would be seen as weak without men because they had no status without a man to support the household to give them the name. The writer of The Parvenue shows a clash of class between the two main characters, the narrator and her husband with her unappreciative family. The writer enables the reader to see in the position of the narrator by writing the short story in a first person view; this way it allows the reader to experience and acknowledge the specific problems that faced the couple. It is shown in the story that the narrator wasnt comfortable having married a richer man of higher social class as she herself had been brought up in a lower class than her husband. Because she and her family were poor, they did not know how to handle the money, as her husband, being in the higher class didnt understand her, this led to conflict.

Walker Percys The Moviegoer Essay -- Walker Percy Moviegoer Essays

Walker Percy's The Moviegoer Walker Percy is the author of The Moviegoer, which is written about a young man named John Binkerson Bolling otherwise known as Binx. He is the main character who grows up in New Orleans. He is a moviegoer who is on a search but the object of his search is not clear. The people he encounters help him along the way, especially his stepbrother Lonnie and an African American man. The Moviegoer takes place during Mardi Gras when Binx discovers that something more is needed in his life. The story begins with Binx receiving a letter from his Aunt Emily saying that they need to have a talk. This talk is about his cousin Kate who Aunt Emily is worried about. She has been â€Å"moping around the house† ever since her fiancà ©Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s death and Aunt Emily wants Binx to cheer her up (28). She wants him to treat Kate as he did before and joke around with her to make her laugh and smile. She has been staying inside and has not interacted with people in a while. On Binx’s way to his aunt’s house, â€Å"the idea of a search occurs to† him (13). â€Å"The search is what anyone would undertake if he were not sunk in the everydayness of his own life. To become aware of the possibility of the search is to be onto something† (13). But what exactly is Binx onto? Binx doesn’t know and doesn’t reveal the purpose of his search because he fears â€Å"exposing (his) own ignorance† (14). Is this search about God? Binx â€Å"hesitates to answer, since all other Americans have settled the matter for themselves and to give such an answer would amount to setting himself a goal which everyone else has reached – and therefore raising a question in which no one has the slightest interest. For, as everyone knows, the polls report that 98% of Americans believe in God and the remaining 2% are atheists and agnostics – which leaves not a single percentage point for a seeker† (13, 14). Binx’s search continues through his attraction to the movies that â€Å"are onto the search, but throw him further from the truth. The search always ends in despair† (13). The movies are a way for him to fill the emptiness in his life. They give him incite into others lives and into his own life. â€Å"Before I see a movie it is necessary for me to learn about something about the theater or the people who operate it, to touch base before going inside† (74). This helps him learn more about how others live and lear... ... wants with his life. He does not need to be as religious as Lonnie but he has choices. Lonnie is willing to fast even though he is very sick and this gives Binx faith that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Even on Lonnie’s deathbed, he is content. After his â€Å"half-brother Lonnie Smith died of a massive virus infection which was never positively identified,† he is asked what will happen to Lonnie (237). The children ask Binx, â€Å"When Our Lord raises us up on the last day, will Lonnie still be in a wheelchair or will he be like us?† and he responds with, â€Å"he’ll be like you† (240). This he may not act in a religious way but at least he does not deny the Lord. So even though he is not all religious, he has taken the faith of Lonnie and directed it into his life. Lonnie’s belief in the long run affects Binx and helps him so many times in his search. He started as a moviegoer, living his life through the movies and now he realizes he can live his life through his actions. He was inspired by one he knew very well and by others everyday actions. He was inspired for the better and hopefully his new profession and wife will fill the void that he’s been feeling for so long.

Humour

Humour comes from a tool that was constructed with a two boards so when one comedian hit another with it, the boards slapped. One of the most popular comics in this category was Charlie Chaplin. The most characteristic feature of physical humour is that comedians rarely use words to provoke laughter. Mimes use the motion of their bodies to narrate a humorous story. The origins of mime date back to the ancient Greece, but then the performances were not necessarily silent, because sometimes the performers sang or delivered recitations. In medieval times the art of mimes developed and in the nineteenth century the mime became recognizable by his speechless posture and the white mask. Clowning is, in a way, a connection between slapstick comedy and mime, as it uses both methods to produce laughter in the addressee. Contemporarily, the clown is a figure identified by various costumes, distinctive makeup, a red nose, and colourful wigs, but clowning has its roots in ancient times, where clowns were mainly bald, with bizarre hats and plaid uniforms. The earliest clowns performed buffoonery, practical jokes, juggling, or parody and these things have not changed much throughout the ages. Harlequin and Pierrot are two of the most popular types of clowns, who owe their existence to commedia dell'arte. Notably, their characteristics originates in sixteenth and seventeenth century European culture. 1.4. Commedia dell'arte Commedia dell'arte as one of the oldest forms of professional theatre flourished in the 16th century through to the 18th century, in Italy. The performances were mainly improvised, and the actors were professionals. They used costumes and masks that illustrated their character. Their comical models were identified by their appearance or behaviour. Initially, they were supposed to represent inhabitants of a specific part of Italy and even included the dialect of a distinct area. Additionally, the relations between characters onstage were similar to these between actors in their lives and because of this fact, the plays were more credible.
